Part 24: "Cooking" hamburgers together

Another mini game - However, I plan to implement just the basics at first and complete it at a later date. We are also doing it very differently this time: Instead of starting the game as an independent project like we did with Fizhy, it will be built directly into our main game. It will also take place (initially) directly on our "overworld" instead of in a console. The following chapter could stimulate your appetite!

Part 23: 3D manga-style characters

It's time to change our game characters. This flat Paper Mario style also has a certain charm but I would like to strive for something much better.

Part 22: Overworld Landscaping

We want to upgrade our hitherto dull landscape outside the mini games. In this regard, today we are dealing with two topics. On the one hand a special tree and on the other grass which moves in the wind but also reacts to the players.

Part 21: Shaders and Particles

Today we will look at Shaders (originally used for shading - the production of appropriate levels of light, darkness, and color within an image). Shaders are hardware or software modules that implement certain rendering effects. In our case, shaders are small programs that can run efficiently on directly dedicated units of the graphics card.

Part 13: Companion Pet

Today we want to make sure that our player does not feel so lonely. To accomplish this, we create a retro companion. Today’s youth may not even be familiar with it anymore but we’re going to implement a variant of the virtual pet Tamagotchi, which was released in 1996 by Bandai. (more...)

Part 12: Network Gaming

Today we dare to tackle a huge topic: Multiplayer via network connection.
This concerns games locally via WiFi with the 3DS, in the LAN (on the PC)
and over the internet (on the PC)...

Part 11: Day and weather change

This time we want to bring some change into the dreary digital everyday life on our overworld. There might be no strategic advantage to start with it so early in development, unlike most things that have been implemented so far, but a developer does not want to work with the same monotonous landscape when testing all the time. That's why I decided to spice the whole thing up a little by the changing of days and weather. This includes changes in the weather such as sunshine, rainy weather and snowstorms, appropriate lighting conditions and day and night changing...

Developer Diary - The Creation of a 3DS/Switch Game

Today we at Planet3DS are starting a new series to bring in some variety - a developer diary. I recently acquired the rank of a Nintendo developer and started making a game that I would like to publish for Nintendo's new home console, Switch and maybe also for the 3DS.
